Reviewing The Minor Events

Padlock's Mile Harness

(By "The Toff")

Bonny Belmont, which went into 0. S.- Donald's stable just before J. J. Kennerley left for the north, won the two-mile trotters' race with the greatest ease on Saturday at Addington.

""THE Australian trotter went away 1 fast and was never headed, winning by over a hundred yards. He put m a break goming to the post at the end of the first half-mile, but he quickly caught his gait again and trotted to the end without any further errors. - • Western Voyage, which was favorite, was always m second place, and trotted one of his best races, without having any chance with the winner. Bingen Star lightened up considerably since he last raced, and did not go at all steadily. A bad break settled any chance he may have possessed before a mile was gone. ; Nighborn, which is now trotting | very steadily, was third, and; this ) fine but unsound trotter is back to his best form. There was not much interest m the race, as the leader established such a long lead-in the early stages that defeat seemed impossible. It was one of the easiest victories scored on the track for a long time. The two-mile trotters' races for this meeting have not been supported by owners as well as on previous occasions. A number of them are at present «sut of commission, but will go into work shortly, no doubt, m view of the big stakes m November at Addington and Christmas time at Auckland. , ■ . Trimmer, on account of his great track showing* was made a hot favorite for the Selwyn Handicap, but he was never sighted, m the" front line 1 at any stage of the race. . Nelson McCormack went, away with a good lead, with Klowa, Omaha and White Sun close up. When the first half-mile was covered, however, Nelson McCdrmack, Omaha, Granite City and Pluto were well; clear of the field, j and racing m that order. , Pluto- was going well at this stage, and he headed Nelson McCormack coming into the straight, and won easily. Logan Hanlon put; in a great run m the straight and passed Nelson McCormack, whilst Omaha came to -get fourth, followed by Acre and Exclusive. It was quite. a good contest, but the honors of the race were with Logan Hanlon, which met with trouble rounding the turn into the straight. Kiowa had every chance, but he failed badly, and Jolly Pet did m his chance by refusing to go away right. Granite City looked very well and paced a capital race till a quarter of a mile from home. Hector's Own failed, to show much speed, and Orphan was not on his best behavior during the race. White Sun seemed to be outclassed,

but Exclusive was responsible for another good effort, finishing really well. Omaha now looks -like developing into more of. a sprinter, and the Waimate- trained pacer showed a lot of speed. . Golden Bubbles is at present a good deal below her best form. Padlock settled the opposition m great style m -the mile harness event m the concluding stages. Lingfield, which was favorite, went ,away fast, With Genuine and Brentloc m close attendance. Bessie "Logan and Fight Ever were not far away m a fine contest
