ATTEMPT TO INTERFERE?
Two Unknown Men Try To Gain Possession of Kaiti
SINISTER ACT BEFORE RACE
(Prom "N.Z. Truth's" Special Christchurch Representative.) There are strong grounds for believing that an attempt was made by some unknown person to tamper with Kaiti, one of the Winter Cup favorites. " -
WHILE Kaiti was being led round the saddling paddock, two unknown men approached the stable boy and, on asking if the horse was Kaiti and being told that it was, one of the men suggested that the boy should go with the other man to have a- drink! The boy had previously been instructed by. P. Neagle that he was to talk to no one while leading the horse round. As a result the boy declfned the invitation to have a drink and retained possession of the horse until it went to the post. It is rumored that the incident ■
was a sinister attempt to get at the horse, as Kaiti was one of the Winter Cup favorites. For some weeks before the event Kaiti was 'bracketed with Wiltshire, the winner of the Steeples. If the unknown men had hoped to achieve anything they were doomed to disappointment. As events turned out Kaiti was one of the unplaced runners m the Winter gup. . - He was "slow m leaving 1 the mark and thereafter had no show m the mile event.
