Struck Sergeant On Nose
(From * 'N.7t. Truth's" Special Dunedin Representative). . UIS counsel told the Magistrate m the Dunedin Police Court that it was George Lonie's unlucky day, and it was. "' . It usually is unlucky to strike a police sergeant, and Lonie found ■his luck out to. the tune of £3. ' Lonie, according to. Mr. C. J. L. White, came to town and went to a football match with some friends and consumed a great deal of liquor. -■ Later tAat night he wandered unannounced into a private house,. ; and leaving there he disturbed another resident, with the result that Sergeant McCarthy came along and arrested Lonie. The' latter objected and dealt the police officer a violent blow over the nose, so injuring the sergeant that a doctor's attention was necessary. Mr. White told the court that Lonie had lost £5 or £6 that day, and he had no recollection of having struck the sergeant. Lonie was lucky enough to get off with the fine indicated, m default seven -days' imprisonment. . v
