Night of Hard Hitting
\- . (From ' ' N.Z. Truth s Waimate Representative) . ■ , THE Waimate Amateur Boxing Association staged one of the best ama--teur contests seen m New Zealand when it matched Alf. Clever-. . |ey, of Wellington, and Allan Campbell, Oamaru. A packed, house witnessed a hard hitting and exceedingly close contest.. ' Both men were m great fettle and provided the fans with thrills. Cleverley showed a fault he must rectify. .That is holding. Referee Nightingale had several times to forcibly separate them. Cleverley, certainly deserved his win, -but a draw or, an extra round would have been more to the liking of those present. Campbell was the loser by the narrow margin of half a point. He shows promise' of going far m the game and has the ability to ,mlx science with fighting. This was the Waimate Association's third tourney and judging by the packed houses on each occasion it will not be- surprising to followers of the sport to learn that another full programme will be provided m the ' near future.
