Brighter Touch Coming Races offer the only real opportunity m New Zealand for the display of beautiful day-clothes, and the women are apt to take fuli advantage qf the fact. Race-wraps are among the features at the present time. THE three-piece variation of the race - 1 mode has its own wrap, of course, but these are not very adequate protection should the sun decide .to hide, its face and the heavens let loose their ivrath on the gamblers, a not infrequent occurrence ip our country. Satin givree, fur-trimmed and sumptuous, crepe romain, and corded silk, m deep, rich colorings, are among the materials used. Even should the rain be really heavy, there is no need to despair, foi- the rubberised ' silk coats of this summer are extremely pretty and smart. Oiled crepe de chines cover summer georgettes very nicely. Scarf collars, both on dresses and also on the long coats that accompany them, are featured strongly on this summer's programme. An enormous collar of knife- pleated georgette was a thing of beauty to the eye at a recent English race meeting, and another, frock sported a waterfall collar that finished up ln flounces somewhere near the hem, while the rest of the frock was severely plain. • Look to your backs — they need every bit of your attention, for trimmings are concentrated about the knees and back of the neck and skirt. A satin bow seen on a recent evening frock started m the small of the back and finished at the ankles, and very smart it looked. A sister frock m soft mauve souple satin had a neck-line at the back and a small flat bow of velvet ribbon, ending m- two long trailing pieces at the bottom of the hem. Black is above all the color for evening wear, and dead black, with * no compromises m the way of 'flesh .-colored. georgette at the decolietage.' Particularly beautiful and effective is the new black georgette spattered with a tiny dust or what looks like jet.
