No woman m her senses can say she honestly, likes to wash dishes. The urge to make dirty things clean and sparkling may give one a vicarious thrill, but the fact remains that washing up is a boring job. However, it can be made better.
TN the. m-st place, there are some good A all- round l-ules that, will bear studying. One of them is: "Clean as you go," which means
that you should clean the dishes step by step as you prepare the meal, and not leave a mass of grubby vessels cluttering up the sink. • ' Besides be ing quicker, it will make a great difference to your state of mind while you are eating, and again when yo u come to do the washing up.. The last ones you use you must perforce leave until the meal is over, but leave them soaking. Some are better m cold water, like potato saucepans, and others '■.m hot. Leave these on the stove so that you have, a clean sink to start operations. Use a large, tray if you have not a dinner Avagon, and pile all the dishes on the table on to the tray instead of trotting back and forth with dishes. For implements m the washing -up game get a rubber scraper — they are clean and . quick, and, of course, rinse every plate under water before stacking up. Try and have a
garbage can, the cover of which lifts with a, foot pedal, arid your time will be, halved. Use water softener if the 'water; is hard, and have a soap-shaker and dishwasher that are reasonably new and clean. Keep the fluffy washer clean by always rinsing m cold water after washing up. and not hanging up with grease on it. Have tacks above your sink if you have not the enamel' pegs, and- hang everything up. It keeps them clenn and sweet. ' Use plenty of soap, and don't have the water boiling hot, but keep changing it, so that the dishes are so hot that they dry quickly. And do not stint on towels. They will keep clean if you rinse them out after washing up.
