All Provinces Competing At Corsair Bay
mNTERBURY HOLD FA VOR
(From "N.Z. Truth's"- "Wanganui Representative)
The New Zealand eight-oared championship is to be decided at Cbrsair Bay, Lyttelton, on Saturday next. Keen interest is being taken m the race by young enthusiasts m all parts of the :;_ Dominion; ,'■
'THERE will be a big crowd at Lyttel--1 ton to witness the contest, when •''■■ ,'' four, brew's, will be seen m action. Auckland and Wanganui will, not be represented .m; the big event this year. Both districts could put very strong eights, in' tho field if finances permitted. As.it is, the- race will 1 be confined to crews,, representing Wellington, Marlborough, Canterbury, and Otago. Canterbury should- retain the magnificent . gold cup ' presented by Mr. Haliburton Johnston, of Auckland. . It is understood that seven, out of eight of last year's crew, will' • again have seats m the Canterbury: ' Boat.- 1 ' - : ■'■ . .'•"'£•■■/■;> ■■■ The men have been campect at Red.-, c 1 iff s. putting* m '" " ''"' some solid work under that very capable coach, H. Ayers, who expressed himself as well satisfied with the way the crew is progressing. Five out of the eight to represent Otago rowed last year. The new men are young oarsmen who have shown excellent form this season. Otago is likely to be worthily represented. The Marlborough selectors had good material to pick from, and if this crew has had the necessary practice it will keep the • others busy, • Some alterations have had to be ■ madejn the, Wellington crew, -but , ; good .'.weftfk has b<ien indulged m." If Cbbkecan getihls njjen into a good swing frpm tl;e jump !dff, Wellington will probably" give Canterbury a very hard tussle. , . ■ ; The rowing season Is nearing its end, though one or two regattas are still to be held, including the Dunedin and Queenstown fixtures. The former is to be held on Saturday, 23, and Queenstown follows on 'Easter ; Saturday.

Petone and , Star Clubs were represented at the Wanganui regatta held last Saturday, Petone, among other events, winning the junior doubles and the junior single sculls. Star triumphed m the youths' fours. The Petone representative, W. Kennedy, won'the junior scuMa m ;a style which suggests he will furnish' into a- good' sculler and twin higher honors later on. The outstanding feature of the regatta was the success of the Aramoho Club's representatives, one crew winning ' two races— the junior fours (clinkers) and junior fours (best and best) — and another crew scoring m the maiden fours. The Auckland provincial rowing championships were decided on Satur-: day last on the T* Whau River course. i.ne loveiy stretch "of water—practically a straight course for two and a-half miles— proved ideal for the purpose, and spectators had a splendid view from^the hill. The Hamilton Club was well to . the fore, no fewer than four events being won by representatives from that shed. The senior fours went to the champion crew, who won by a hundred and fifty yards from Waitematu. , ■ • r 'The champions hopped away m front, and never had any. trouble, 1 rowing; .30 to the minute over the last-quarter-mile, as against 36 by. Waitemata. /• Hamilton crews also won the junior fours, the youths' fours, and the lightweight maidens. ■■-.' .';,',/ vAn eight-oar race was rowed between i-epr-jsentatives of the town and country clubs, and this resulted m a win for the country by three lengths.
