Admiral Bingen Is In Form

(By "The Toff") Born of American parentage, , Admiral Bingen displayed ability as a two-year-old. At that age he was a trotter, but when raced, he went unsteadily. AFTER due ' trial it was decided to *^ convert him to the pacing- gait. ■ In December last he was taken to Oamaru, where he was heavily backed to win over a mile and a-quarter. It was a saddle contest, but after taking 1 the lead three furlongs from home he tired very badly and finished out of a place. ; On his return to New Brighton a change m trainers took place, > the gelding going- into J. Washington's establishment. At Timaru, Admiral Bingen made his appearance as a trotter, where he [ was driven by F. Holmes, who nursed him over the initial stages of the Kingsdown Handicap. ; Though placed at a disadvantage through a driverless horse galloping on the inside of him, he stuck to the trot. Taking charge half a mile from home, he won easily, and . m a manner that gives promise of him fulfilling the excellent prospects of his two-year-old form. Soon after the start of the race R. McDonnell, driver of Aileen Wood, was tipped out. The veteran reinsman received head injuries and was sent to hospital. Among the green trotters that opposed Admiral Bingen was Bon Boy, which spoilt his prospects by breaking several times. ' Lucky Voyage made a bad break when m the lead and with a mile to" go. He trotted a good race from then on and succeeded m defeating Brent Boy for second money. Brent Boy went to a. break fifty yards from the judge. Great Nelson, a three-year-old brother to Great Bingen, is a nice trotter, and one which probably will make good with experience.
