TARANAKI WAY

Day Beneath The Mountain

Opunake is not out of step with the rest of the Taranaki clubs — it shares m their popularity. QNCE a year the crowd finds its way to Pihama, and there is run indeed a very good meeting. The main event, the Cup, will see Mendip and Manly run well. Royal Acre should be able to head off the crowd m the Hurdles, the best of the others being Airtight. Most of the maidens have been sepn out, and Annoyer, which was dead unlucky at New Plymouth, should get out of the class. There is little between the others. The Railway Handicap will have to be picked m one, and the hometrained Whisogne was a winner at Taranaki last month. The Electric Handicap will be a fair dinkum scurry, with Airway and Flying Binge liked. Lady Lucerne will go a very fast five. Friend Ridgemount is m the open six, and he may get his own way — out m front. Gold Dawn can travel the journey. The two topweights, Gasnapper and Kawhakina, can be depended upon to have a say m the finish of the President's. Cool Mint and Richfield, if he gets away, will set a merry pace m the Farewell Handicap.
