THERE was a lot of moaning * and groaning round the country, the other day when two horses won at a minor meeting. They were backed for big money both on and off the course. Of course it was not the owner or • the trainer who backed them with the books, because that is not allowed under the rules of racing. Owners and trainers do not break tfhe law. But back to the moaning. The horses m question figure rather prominently m certain eyes when the word goes forth that they are on the job. ( = Quite a host of admirers they have and some of these admirers do not hesitate to weigh m with big wads. Of course, to be , able to do this they must get the oil when to go m. That is what . caused the moaning-rthey were not given the office. >. In one little township there was a stay-at-home punter v*ho sat waiting patiently fpr the birdie to drop the news. It did not come. But this time no news was not good news and later In the day he woke up to the fact he had been shelved. Frantic telephone inquiries round the country proved this to be only too true : — and then sadness set m!
