TAKES ON OLDER HORSES
MANY thought Nightmarch had a good chance of success m the "* Thompson, but that engagement was forfeited and he is to be kept till Monday for the Trentham Gold Cup. The! three-year-old gives every indication of turning out a stayer and, m a handicap he would not get eighteen pounds the better of it, as he does at weight-for-age. Rapier is another from Riccarton with reasonable hopes. of success and he is given a better chance m this than m the Thompson. Last year, when the record was run, he failed badly. Old as he is, Rapine will be the elect of many. The pace will need to be true-run for hirrt to shine. . To get this he will no doubt have Joy King to make the pace. That being so, "N.Z. Truth" is quite prepared to hear of his victory. He is not as good as he was, but he has slipped very little. Pegaway, northerners declare, will beat the lot. Had he been m the Auckland Cup they reckon he would have* won instead, of Corinax. Whatever Wins, the race is going to be the best the club has staged for some years. Betting will be spirited, big support coming for at least four of them. . ■
