UNTO the pleasant resting-places of chewful spirits has fled the soul of Claude Hector Olsen, familiarly and pleasurably known amongr newspaper men by reason of his flair as a versifier and jingrler of liquid muse. "C.H.0." as an appendfipre to a. topical quatrain, . were initials whose very, inscription m newspaper columns became recognised as ah implied assurance .that there indeed was a,: motif from the deeply sunken well of cheery observation,- its significance doubled by subtle penetrations which rarely failed to intrigue us. . . •. ... .:'.-■, ..:■..: Here, indeed, was a life not conn'd by rote, an- earthy., earthly spirit which. rebelled against the strictures, of close convention, and although he chose and practised sedulously m his capacity ■as a teacher m the Carterton High School, his span of stewardship was marked by much that was. unorthodox, yet productive of achievements which invariably 'were ■;■■ marked with . success. Farewell, O spirit of cheerfulness. May your sojourning 'm the land which is beyond be no less pleasant than m the ways of: labor you knew-:with us.
