WASTE OF FUEL
Caused By Neglect Of Oiling
Neglect of lubrication is the cause of much waste of petrol m pri-vately-owned cars. A laboring en-, gine, it will be readily understood,? makes unduly heavy calls on the. fuel supply. ■ IT is not possible for the ordinary passenger car user to tune up his machine to its maximum capacity, but he jean watch the points upon which the expert tuner relies for efficiency, and by this means can keep the machine m reasonably good working order. With poor compression, the motor cannot develop, full power,. and if the cylinders are scored there, will be excessive oil consumption. Badly-fitting piston rings or valves or leaks- around the spark plugs militate against full engine power. Much is to be gained by adjusting the valve tappets correctly. It is necessary to keep the crank case I oil fresh, and care must be taken to get oil of a suitable grade. If the cooling system is not kept clean it Will act tardily and weaken the efficiency of the engine and cause overheating. . Failure of a correct mixture m the carburettor will follow, causing late firing. .. IN changing a tyre that has not been ! removed for some time, loosen nuts! slightly before raising car with, jack.
