Unjust Act

Q.: I have been brought up by the State since I was four. Having gained my proficiency at 14, I was placed on a farm by the State, although I wanted to learn a trade, and earned a wage until I was discharged at 20. I was only allowed a few shillings per week, and there is now a considerable sum of accumulated wages to my credit. The department, however, absolutely refuse to pay me this balance, although being unskilled I have been out of work for some months and am quite destitute. How can I obtain the money I have worked for? — -"0.L.E." (Napier). A.: You are the victim of an extraordinarily unjust and tyrannical Act. It provides that tHe superintendent can conr tinue to hold the money for as long as he thinks fit. You have no right of recourse to the courts against the /superintendent's decision. It is to the Government's interest to postpone payment as long as possible, as m the event of your death the Act provides that the money is to go, not to your next-of-kin, but to the Government.
