SURPRISE WIN

Punters went to Dannevirke to put it on Propaganda m the Maiden m double handfuls, but m the .' running they were surprised. AS the leaders went over the finish- ** ing line they were disgusted, for Malahat appeared to have it on the favorite. B\it, to the joy of the multitude, the judge decided their, way. From both . sides of the, line, Malahat appeared to be the winner. But the judge is the only one to know and his decision was final. Big punters passed him a hearty vote of thanks. To those who followed the race closely the failure of Propaganda to make an exhibition of the field was surprising. His Trentham form was better than what, he showed at Dannevirke — decidedly so. Possibly the Levin gelding was not at his best on the day — horses are like human beings m this respect. 1 Anyhow, whatever was Avrong, Propaganda failed to come to light as he was expected to, and on that race is not the coming ..horse that many thought he was going to be. Perhaps it will be wiser to suspend judgment m the interim. Perhaps ' that maiden success has made a difference. There's a difference between a maiden and a winner. I
