Whispers From Wanganui
$ v (From "N.Z. Truth's" Wanganui Rep.) WJ. RAYNER will probably bring Thaw m again. The gelding has had a long spell, but has been hacked about for some time and is looking very well. • # * Pedestal, the half-brother to Commendation, was blistered and turned out. He is doing well, but will not be brought m until next season. # * # Some think the last race at Wanganui should have meant farewell to' more than one. • « • The racing at Wanganui did Acred no harm, and this gelding will be seen out at Bulls all going well. * # * Star Area's performances at Wanganui were high class, and entitle him to top place m the Rangitikei Cup. If M. Gardner lands him' at the post as fit as he was at Wanganui the Acre gelding will run a big. .race. m * * The cracked heel from which Silvermine has been suffering is said to be yielding to treatment, and hopes are entertained that this great little galloper will soon be all right again. • # * The knock sustained by Mask m the Clifford Plate did not appear to b.e very serious, but it -kept him on the easy list several weeks, and it has been decided not to race him again this season. # # * Though some hold the opinion that Lysander has turned sour, this is not G. M. Curries view. The son of Absurd — Pennon gallops genurously enough for some riders, but will not do his best for others. That he is fast enough yet 1 to ■ win some good races- is certain, but he has proved very costly to backers. # # * Ceremony is going along sweetly, and. the brother of Lysander should put up a great effort m the Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes. # # * T. . Long w.as disappointed with Cobham's running, at Wanganui, but he is still hopeful the gelding will make good. ** . * There is not much of Cashier, but he is a good sort and may be one of the hardest to beat at Brills with 7.11. * * ' ._* Moutoa Treasury , appears to be better than ever just now, and if started m the Rangitikei Cup she will not want for friends. ## ' # Airtight should run well m the hurdles at Bulls, m which event Royal Acre will be one of the most fancied. # # # On Wanganui form High Falutin' will have many supporters m the Ngatlara Hark Handicap at Rangitikei. The -son of Grandcourt is a good one, and wiil still further 'improve. War Flame has been tinlticky m bumping up against something just a bit too good for her on two or three occasions when her prospects looked bright. It would be good to see J;ick Palmer have the luck with him at Bulls. 4» ft a Taranaki sports are looking to Llanore to run a good race m the Great Northern Oaks. i* # * It looks as if Ceremony will be ..tho only one of W. Rayner's team that will go to Auckland at Easter, now that Mask is off the scene. # # * The Warden is not engaged at Bulls. When he races next it will be at a more important meeting, probably Auckland. * • • Two or throe Wanganui horses will ; make the trip to Opunake all going ■ we'd. [ # «■ * Benzora has thrown off the soreness which • troubled him recently, and ' should be m good trim for Opunake. [ * * # Some doubt is expressed as to J whether Reremoana will be able to , race at Trentham. ' Nothing like a pipe when things go wrong — how it soothes, solaces and cheers! — and how it enhances one's > comfort and sense of well-being when things are going, right! But to get tiie best out of a smoke you must select ; your 'baccy with discrimination. Avoid . brands full of nicotine. Be sure they'll . let you down sooner or later. Then you [ won't want to smoke at all.. And — ' mind this — the imported brands all 1 contain more nicotine than. is. good for - anyone. Why smoke these when you can get pure New Zealand tobacco at any tobacconist's — sweet, cool, fragrant and very- pure because there's hardly any nicotine m it. You' see, the leaf is toasted. That rids it of. most of its nicotine besides developing flavour and | aroma. J Better or more innocuous to- , bacco money cannot buy. There are i several brands fill good, special favourites being "Riverhead Gold." a mild, delicious aromatic; "Navy Cut No. 3," a blend of. choice medium-flavoured tobaccos; "Cavendish" (the sportsman's smoke), another fine medium; and "Cut Plug No. 10," for those who prefer a lull-bodied tobacco. The flavour is unique.*
