ON THE PENINSULA
Red Heckle Has Race Prior ToSt.Leger
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Christchurch Representative). There will be a chance at Motukarara on Saturday for those which missed at Riccarton to gather m a little stake money.
THE Peninsula Cup will this year command attention m view of Red Heckle making his first appearance since he won the Great Northern Derby. Rapier is burdened with a good horso's weight, and though Red Heckle might require the race into him to show' his best, Rapier will haye to do it righT to concede the Derby winner thirteen pounds. Rapier meets Beau Geste on eight pounds better terms than he did when he suffered a nose defeat m the Midsummer Handicap. Thorndale did not run like a cup winner at Riccarton, and will require a race or two before he is at his best. Pride was showing up m the Midsummer Handicap and is the only possibility m the lightweights, but she meets Rapier on exactly the same terms, and should again finish behind him. The issue should rest between Rapier and Red Heckle, and as Rapier has had recent racing he looks the pick of the handicap. Arrowmir defeated a good class field m the Craven Plate, and over a shorter iti imi iiiiii i tun 1 1 1 mm uiiiiiii tti iintnnti it mi nun uiiMi mt ii i miii iin t m nir ir iin 1 1 ii
course m the Forsyth Plying Handicap should not be troubled by the extra poundage. Silver Coot was running on at the end of the Craven Plate, and the small field m the Forsyth should suit him, but he has his share with 8.11/ Buoyant may ulso be troubled with the weight allotted him. The most likely lightweight to trouble Arrowmir.is Arch, Arrow, which ran a good second to Great Star at Riccarton. Bon Rose, Juniper and Rigmarole represent form m the Juvenile Stakes, and of these three Juniper should do best. Evening was well served by her rider at Riccarton and, meeting Toawai on the same terms at. the Peninsula, she should still hold the advantage. The Ahuriri Hack Handicap' will provide one of the best fields of the day, and Riccarton will take a hand with After Ten and The Viscount. If Buoyant takes on the Kinloch .Handicap m preference to the Forsyth Flying, he will be well supported, but there does not seem anything to check the run of Great Star. iinuiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiniiiiiiiiiiiiiiniiiiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiiiiiimiiiimiiimiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiii
