ONCE MORE A TEST

Hastings Has Race Which Would Suit Aussie And Limerick

PACE

ON ALL THE WAY

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Eeprescntative.) Owner-trainer George Paul has no intention of taking Aussie across to Sydney this Autumn. Such was the information passed on to "N.Z. Truth" by Oeorge himself.

PAUL, when questioned' about the Dunedin trip, classed . it as the happiest outing of his life-time. He was full of eulogistic references to the .people of the southern city and particularly mentioned Secretary Les. . Hill as being eminently suited for the r job he held. "G.P." was also greatly taken ' , with the sportsmanlike manner m which Limerick's trainer met de- *" feat. • F. D. Jones was the first to congratulate, the owner of Aussie on his 'f. success and made no bones' about stating that Limerick was fairly and squarely beaten ty a better horse on ' the day. )i That there was real merit m Aussie's performance Jones instanced by re- \ marking that Limerick could usually be depended upon to win first time of asking after a spell. George has great hopes that Aussie { and Limerick will meet again over a mile course before the present season : • is over, and if they do it will be m the j Qnnond Memorial Cup. at Hastings. Jones has already expressed himself willing for another bout provided he misses the final day at Randwick, thus

allowing Limerick to leave Sydney m time to be thoroughly fit for the Hastings test. If the pair can be got together there should be quit© as great a. . rush to Hastings m the late autumn as there was when the memorable Gloaming — The Hawk battle took place. One thing; is certain, and^ that is that if Aussie and Limerick db chance to measure strides -at Hastings, the northern freak will not be allowed to return the ridiculously large dividend he did at Wingatui. It has always been contended that if Limerick is pulling m the early part of his races, he has not been seen at his real best at the business end. If that contention is correct, then Limerick may be up against it to ever lower Aussie's colors over a mile course, for the son of Fortafix is a great .sprinter, and if Limerick cannpt clap his. best paces on all the way for a mile then the slackness of the speed m the early part may always tell m favor of Aussie. Above a mile matters will of course be more m favor of Limerick.
