DRAMATIC PROTEST MADE
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) A SOMEWHAT dramatic overture to the police enquiry re- **• garding the Elsie Walker mystery, before proceedings began on Tuesday morning) arose when Mr. Meredith, Crown Solicitor, asked the indulgence of the court. ' He referred to a letter written by "Robert B." to the Minister of Justice. "I consider it a thinly-veiled attack on myself m connection with my presentation of the evidence at the inquest on Elsie Walker," he said. "It is typical of counsel who handed it to the press." He said he would take the responsibility of what he had done, and asked permission to give evidence at a later stage. Mr. Page promised to consider if it were desirable, and, if so, give him permission. Messrs. Moody, Johnstone and Finlay had no complaint to make on behalf of clients. •
