EXTRA TURN

«. ■ ■ . Fancy Tricks Not Liked DANCEJJPSET (From "N.Z. Truth's" Dunedin Rep.) Some day, perhaps, John Richardson will be heard of as a famous trick-cyclist. The best judges of any such eventuality are those folk of Croydon and district who attended a dance at the village Hall on February 1. X FEW laps on his cycle round the hall while couples • were resting between the dances, was Richardson's impromptu debut before an audience. Jf he'd have left it at that, when the M.C of the dance decided to ringdown on Richardson's turn, everything would hirve been all right. But that day Richardson had been on an excursion all the day to blowy Bluff, where, apparently, he did. a bit of blowing himself — froth-blowing. He resented the M.C. giving- him, as it were, the "bird," and later on m the evening he wreaked vengeance m a manner which was described at the Gore Magistrate's Court the other day as "brutal and premeditated assault." The hectic night was described by Mr. Bannerman, who appeared on behalf of David Joseph Crowley, when a private prosecution for assault came before Mr. J. H. Dixoh. Richardson and. his brothei', said counsel, had waited for Crowley, who was acting as master- of- ceremonies at the dance, and after the evening's dancing they attacked him and threw him, out of the hall. While Crowley was on the ground, it was alleged, John Richardson kicked him, thereby inflicting an injury to the groin and a facial wound which necessitated three stitches. h ■ For defendant," Mr. Aitken said his qlient had taken rath.er mqre liquor than was good for him while at Bluff. He was, perhaps, a "wild youth," but was married with one child* He was convicted and fined £10, half of Avhich was to be paid to complainant, and costs amounting- *.o £6/15/-.
