Ne\ir Device That Will Stop Tractor Troubles IS DOUBLING EFFICIENCY
The makers of the new magneto and governor attachment claim that it puts an end to 90 per cent, of tractor troubles immediately, besides doubling the efficiency.
IT causes the engine to start instantly, regardless of cold weather or the length of time it has been standing, while ignition troubles arc eliminated, and the engine runs smoothly, developing more power. The attachment provides automatic throttle control, ensuring uniform engine speeds at all times without the driver having to touch the throttle control lever. Expensive delaj's • are avoided; while considerable economy m petrol and oil results from its use. The majority of all tractor troubles are with the ignition. If the tractor is hard to start ihe engine "misses," "splutters," and lacks power; it is generally found that the contact points | m the timer are worn, or the vibrators out of. adjustment, else the contact springs are weak, the coils wet, fflllII!!II!ll!IIIIII!III!lllll!^^
or the wires chafed and perhaps soaked with oil. A high tension magneto docs away with these ignition troubles because it does away with the things which cause the trouble. It has no colls, vibrators, spring contacts, or numerous connections to wear and get put of adjustment. It does not have a complicated system of wiring to get oil soaked or chafed, with short circuits liable to occur at any time. The high tension magneto- is an entirely different kind of ignition system — simple, rugged, and complete y in itself. It generates its own high tension current and does not require a flywheel "magneto," a battery, a timer, or coils. It uses only four short cables, all being heavily insulated and located high above the oil and grease.. A magneto has only one pair, of contacts, and, as these are opened by two hardened steel cams which never wear out during the life of the instru--fcnent, there is never any variation m the timing of the spark. A magneto produces big, hot flamelike spai k.s that fire the gas charge m each cylinder completely and at the
proper instant. This gives a smooth, even flow of energy to the* drive wheels, making the tractor more powerful and enabling it to do more and better work. You can prevent the rearing of your tractor when it is equipped with magneto ignition. All you need do is to fully retard your spark control lever; this automatically cuts off the ignition and stops the engine instantly. The throttle governor maintains a' uniform engine speed automatically, regardless of changes m the load. With this attachment you can run your tractor all day without touching the throttle at all. j The governor is mounted on the magneto fitting, but operates independently of the magneto. It automatically controls the gas intake, cut-
ting down the flow when the engine lends to speed up, and increasing it when the engine begins to slow down. The mechanism is remarkably sensitive, responding instantly to the slightest change m load. Its adjustment is simple, it being only necessary to change the tension of a coil spring when a speed change is desired. This can be done m a second by turning a wing nut. The governor prevents stalling of the engine when a load is applied, and prevents racing when the load is removed. It saves oil, gas, and undue wear on the pistons and bearings. It makes ploughing easier and the furrows more uniform. The driver does not have to watch the ploughs and the feed control at the same time. When the tractor Is used for belt work the governor makes it unnecessary to have an extra man present to regulate the engine speed ' when varying loads are encountered. The governor is absolutely dust and waterproof, and requires no, attention excepting to oil twice a day when the tractor is used, and then turn the grease cup occasionally.
