SOME SPEED
(By "The Toff")
Using clever tactics, " Tomkinson sheltered Logan Park from the wind and came with a rush at the finish to win .. the Champion Handicap. DADLOCK behaved like a mule when *■ the signal to begin was given and he took no part m the race. Jean McElwyn began very fast, and Epigram went away on a tangle. With a furlong disposed of, Logan Park dropped into second place behind Jean McElwyn. All along the back Logan Park sheltered from the ihigh wind that was m evidence by trailing Jean McElwyn, which reached the half-mile peg m 1-13. . At this stage the pair was six lengths clear of Epigram, which was closely pursued by Logan Chief and Ahuriri. . Jean McElwyn got down to the mile m 2.21. where- Logan Park still was allowing her to make the pace. Once m line for the judge, and with the wind -behind him, Logan - Prk put m his claim. ' A short struggle with Jean McElwyn ensued, then Logan Park drew away to win m a stylish manner by three quarters of a length. r. - - : . Eight lengths farther down the lane came Logan Chief, then Ahuriri.
