TOO GOOD
Tiger Salve On Improve (By "The Toff.") To lead all. the way under such adverse conditions and win the Armstrong . Handicap over two miles was no mean performance on the part of Tiger Salve. WHEN the gelding was brought over from Australia about three years ago by his present owner, T. Richards, he was affected by the change of climate and went all to pieces. Early this season Tiger Salve began to strike his true form and judged by his efforts .at Wellington he is entitled to be regarded as a genuine trotter. He should add to his list of successes m good company. Entering on the last lap the favorite, Trampfast, proceeded to gather Tiger Salve and;. Napland. Tiger Salve was at the twelve furlongs post m 3.35 4/5. When it came, to business Tiger Salve pulled out a big effort, rattling honie with the wind behind him m 33secs. v He made the job too stiff for Trampfast, which was a length behind him when the judge was passed.

She won a race at Christmas time, and finished a good fourth m the February Handicap at Petone. Hal more was first out and first home m the Waiwetu Handicap. He carved out his first mile against high wind m 2.18 3/5, and the mile and a.quarter m 2.55, coming home his last two furlongs m 35secs. Haimo're is a real horse, and one that has been under-rated. Tno next time he visits a starter over a mile and a-half or shorter journey he will win again. There was good money for Nelson Dillon m trie Waiwetu Handicap and his decent showing will encourage his backers to put it on him again. Rose Marie finished fourth m the mile and a-half event at Petone. She may do better m a tenfurlong contestt Red Rey mixed his gait badly m the Waiwetu Handicap. He was crabby m his preliminary. . . . ■ . . Cora Tacks is racing better m harness. . Her third m 3.30 at Petone was a fair . performance. Grand. Light Avent a dead-game race m the. Waiwetu Handicap, but the task of going round seven horses left him without a punch when the last furlong ojf a mile and a T half. journey was entered upon. It is pretty obvious that Grand Light is going to develop into a useful pacer. Like most members of .the Four Chimes tribe, he is ■improving with age." ■- •'.■.,. ''■''■'• ■ ' .':'"'
Ambleside is a good actioned pacer by Author Dillon from Pleasant Drive, the dam of Dalmeny and Dalnahine. He contested two l-aces. In the February Handicap he made a break at the start and soon was hopelessly placed. In the Taita Handicap, run over a mile find a-quarter, he again lost ground m the early stages. He put m a good run going along the back the last time and .was m second place two and a-half furlongs from home. Skipper Price . placed him under .a stiff drive m the straight, but while challenging the winner for the big end of the money he faulted. Regaining his balance fairly quickly he got to within a length of Nonsuit. With racing experience, Ambleside promise's to make a fair horse. Grace Huon, a member of G. McKehdry's team at Addington, began quickly m the Taita Novice Handicap ■and Was going well .when she left her feet before she ..was two furlongs on the journey. From 48yds. Roger Lyon finished third m the Taita Novice Handicap of a mile and a-quarter. He was weli backed, and the next time he starts m a suitable class over a mile or ten furlongs he> will be very hard to beat. After making a break with .a mile and a-half- to go Zella toddled home m the Au Revoir Handicap. She has improved a lot and given care and reasonable work she will annex another two-mile contest. She stays pretty, well.
