COMING ALONG
Experience Is Making Gala Day
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) It was only a matter of the right experience over hurdles for Gala day to make good. LIE is aged, but he may not be too old to make good over fences, for his pace on the flat was above the average, and he has certainly retained^ quite a lot of his former speed. He is the right stamp to stand the necessary buffeting about which hurdle performers hiust expect, while he is gaining- more and more confidence over timber, and is just now beginning to take seriously to the game. He fairly revelled m his task at , Te Aroha on opening day and hit the front early. He relished the track and made light of his 9.7. ' It was his first victory over timber, but it should not be his last, for the likely hurdlers of the coming jumping season are mostly of the has-been, and of the disappointing order. The Matthews people should get even more with Gala Day than they did with Pouri as a hurdler.
