Spring Centre-bolts

EXCEPT to hold together the leaves when assembling the spring, the use of the centrebolt is not very obvious. As a fact, it is a valuable safety device, should the clamps holding axle and spring together be allowed to slacken. The head, fitting into a hole m the axle pad, locates spring and axle, even with loose clamps, and also holds the leaves m their proper t relation. Neglect to keep the champs tight may ultimately cause the centre-bolt to shear through, or the leaves to break at the centre.
