The Show's The Thing

THE only motion pictures of the rescue of survivors from the "Vestris," the ill-fated British liner which sank recently with an appalling loss of life, are claimed to have been secured by the Paramount organisation They are* incorporated m a special edition of Paramount News-, which will be released m New Zealand at an early date. The pictures, taken from the s.s. "Berlin," one of the rescue ships, show survivors floating m the rough seas, and clinging desperately to wreckage, also the arrival of the first lifeboat, crammed with passengers, at the side of the "Berlin," and of other boats cruising about m search of further survivors.

"THE VAGABOND KING," a spectacular and beautiful musical play, and one of. the latest J. C. Williamson successes, is now m New Zealand, and opened m Auckland on Tuesday, February 12. "The Vagabond King" is quite outside the usual class of musical play. It has tragedy as well as pathos and humor m its composition," and interpreted by a splendid J. C. Williamson company, at the. head of which are James Liddy and Strella Wilson, it is sure to be one of the outstanding successes of the year m New Zealand.

WITHOUT any doubt at all, Allan Wilkie's New Zealand toutshould be quite as successful as any previously undertaken. During <the Wellington season, which conclude on Saturday night, two plays m "All's Well That Ends Well" and "King Lear" were produced for the first time and drew large audiences. The educational value of the tour, too, has been appreciated b y the young people of Wellington, and nightly hundreds availed themselves of the special student rates. Among the members of Allan Wilkie's Shakespearean company, which i's at present on a tour of New Zealand is Hilda Scurr, o f Dunedin. "Miss Scurr had a particularly successful time at the Christchurch competitions last year as an elocutionist, and she was highly spoken, of by the. judge, Culford Bell, of Auckland.
