Training Must Siieceed .. ' (From "N.Z. Truth's" Christchurch Rep.) • , Though Alec. Stokes surprised the multitude by his performances at the national championships he only confirmed the high opinion swimming enthusiasts had formed of him m Christchurch this season. DEADERS of "Tn^i" will remember an announcement when the season opened that Carl Atkinson had', predicted Stokes to come right this'season, j Last year Carl supervised the training of both Dave Lindsayi and Alec. Stokes, and was therefore .m a position to form a correct opinion. Though Lindsay, was selected to .go to the Olympiad, Carl held to the opinion that Stokes would' be his ■ .master this year, and that opinion 'i : turned out trumps. ■Lindsay was not so well served m condition as his Canterbury rival, but there, is little to. induce the belief that there would have been any other result had all conditions been equal. Stokes deserved his successes for he was about, the. only swimmer m the .province to' take 'seriously, to training, and. his enthusiasm reaped./ its just reward;
