Canterbury To Lose Tennis Star (From "N.Z. Truth's" Christchurch Rep.) ''■ Summer sport of all descriptions suffered some heavy defections this season through the removal of prominent players from the district. TI J E heaviest body-blow, however, comes with the pending departure of Miss May Speirs, whose engagement to Harry Dykes,- of Auckland, has been announced. The removal of Miss Speirs does not take effect until after her marriage next August. This is the last season that Canterbury wiil be able to call upon her mighty- services m the tennis world. Though she lost her national title ... at Auckland last month, Miss Speirs is still the outstanding figure m the feminine realm of tennis m New Zealand. She has always been responsible for holding women's tennis on an elevated plane m the Dominion. During the visit of the English players, Gregrorj", the English captain, ,who played several practice matches with Miss Speirs, gave her a high ranking m comparison; with the women, players of England, including her among the first three or four.
