ALL SERENE
(By "The Toff.") After tangling at the start and losing fully six' lengths, .Royal Serene romped home m the Liverpool Handicap, for horses that could do two miles m 4.35 or faster. DOYAL SERENE has a lot of ability, *V and it is only her fracciousness at the barrier that has prevented her from winning good races. Dilnon was m the lead at the' end of two furlongs, covered m 38sec, and held that position for a mile and threequarters from Travis Axworthy, Sahib, Roddy, Erin's Lynn, Hector's Own and Royal Serene. Here Dilnon began to tire. Travis Axworthy hit the front at the bend for home, but half-way down the lane Royal Serene and Roddy came at him. Roddy bobbled seventy yards from the winning-post, but Royal Serene passed Travis Axworthy and beat him comfortably. Travis Axworthy went a dead game race, and his performance augurs well for future efforts. . Next season should find him racing m good company. Roddy went a good race and is a very promising pacer. Mercury acted badly at the start, so did. Golden Author, Ricardo, and Vestas. / Erin's Royal was m second place for two furlongs, and was third at the half-mile, after which he disappeared into the ruck. . Sahib, which finished fourth, stayed on well. He previously has been regarded as a sprinter, but his performances on this occasion makes him look a probable winner of a two-mile journey. The mile was covered m 2.21 2/5, mile and a-quarter 2.54 1/5, and the mile and a-half m 3.28 1/5.
