PINK COAT

In Champagne Stakes STARS JVIISSING (From "IST.Z. , Truth's" Christchurch Rep.) In the south there was a general mourning of the fact that Nedda was not nominated for this season's classics. "MOW with the Dunedin Champagne * Stakes 'to' be' ''decided,- her absence from the field is a matter for further regret. "Budge" Irwin has strong reasons to believe that: he has something above the ordinary m Michaela's daughter, and for the past three weeks she has been basking m the sunshine at Randwick awaiting the big two-year-old trials which will come up for decision at Easter time. Gold Tinge can hardly be equal to the task m his present condition, and Stealth is the only performer m the top of the handicap with winning form. Leading Boy and Jaleux have yet to show form, but a little lower down Pink Coat and Dutch Money represent the winning way since the season opened. When Pink Coat won for Jim Samson at Oamaru, his owner decided to put him aside until the C.J.C. Champagne Stakes came along, but his new owner has decided on a different programme. If the Hunting Son colt has done right since his 'Oamaru successes, there should be nothing to hold a light to him m this field. In his only start he won like a good one, and though Dutch Money has a win at Wingatui to her credit, she will find it all m front of her to lower the colors of Morrison's youngster. The race has not by any means drawn the best two-year-olds m the island, and backers may be nearest the mark m plumping for PINK COAT.
