SMALL FISH
Wingatui Minor Events MANY RUNNERS (From . "N.Z. Truth's" Christchurch Hep.) The scratching pen worked overtime on Wingatui minor events fields, but there are still plenty to pick and choose from. IJURDLING form m the south this season has been fairly consistent, the first five m the Autumn hurdles representing winning brackets. Rangatahi appeals most at the distance, and Tunamoe has proved the. best stayer of the others. On Trentham running Papuito will see a short piice m the Trial Stakes. The southern contingent are not a good lot, and Starshooter, though perhaps m need of a race, should be equal to most of them. On his earlier form of the season Amor would look , a good thing for the President's Handicap, but he has worked poorly since his return from the north. Tardy won m a similar event over the same distance at the last Wingatui meeting. Trentham form points to Toawai being the hardest to beat. Sweety Refrain has an unbeaten record so far, though over six furlongs. It is unlikely, however, that Sam Trilford would have accepted with her were he doubtful regarding her prospects m the Berwick Handicap. Star Raid should have improved with racing. They are not a good lot m the Stewards' Mile, and Pangolin and Kilmoyler are entitled to respect.
CANNOT LEAVE DERT TINKER informed H. "N.Z. Truth" at Rotorua that he definitely was not going to Wingatui this week to ride Aussie m the Publicans' Handicap and the Hazlett Memorial. . Tinker has too much to occupy his time with his own team at Te Aroha this weekend, and m his absence Stan. Bagby will deputise. Bagby, on his last visit south, rode the winning double the second day — Swannee River and Rose Wreath. Tinker continues to have a great innings up north, and he trained and rode two winners at Rotorua on Saturday. He knows both the riding and training parts of the business, and he seems on the way to amass big money if he can keep his weight m check. Bert -has a fair-sized team m work, and the winners he turned out on Saturday were Archeen and Arcade.
