EQUALITY ?
Women and Surf
Competi.ions
(From "N.Z. Truth's"' Christchurch
Rep.)
A wave of disappointment has swept into the camp of lady, surfers m Canterbury through the decision of the Canterbury Surf and Life Saving Association to bar women
from compe-iing m surf competi-
tions under its jurisdiction. THERE are a number of enthusiastic •*■ lady surfers m Christchurch who have qualified for their medallions under difficult surf conditions, and if the association thought it worth while to allow them to enter this far- .into the sport,, it is surely worth while permitting them .to .put tneir theoretical knowledge to the test m beach competitions." '
There cannot be too many people trained to efficient standards m life saving, and this is especially the case with women, as the greatest majority of people getting into difficulties on our beaches are members of the falser sex.
Woman has progressed so far with her usurpation of the nwsruline spo'-t---in.£r realm, that it would make little difference were she allowed to enter into surf competitions.
