Waikato Maiden Limits Under Rule

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) For the lesser light harness lights at the Waikato meeting, the maiden race has a 3.37 limit. COME Epsom trainers contend that this ciass is" too tight, and the club would have suited owners better by working it 3.40. \/' There has not been a programme framed by any body on the country circuit that has pleased. the owners of the rough element, and it was fully expected that someone would talk when the W.T.C. schedule was pub- , lished. . Some of those now moaning over the limit at Claudelands need only cast their minds back a couple of months or so. They had an opportunity then when the Northland Club staged, a mile and a half 3.43 class. "N.Z. Truth" does not wish to insinuate that the owners of maidens should not be given a show, but reckons that if a maiden has not a chance m a 3.37 event (2.25. to the mile), it is better left alone until such time as it can get ithe distance m something approaching decent time. They haye also another complaint m respect to the Waikato Cup. V ■ I ' ,■•■. ;. . • ■ The limit to that event is .4.36 and here again they state that it should be 4.42 V - ::; ■ ■/.;-. '"■-■■■-' It is not everyone who complains, but just the few who cast their bread on the waters, m November and expect it to float -back m the shape of a Christmas spread four weeks later.

While Choysa is a possibility, the doings of the Timaru novice, John Noble, makes him a solid member of the party. Then there is St. George— ,a real possibility. If he is dressed m his Sunday clothes, he will apply the duster to some of his aristocratic associates, which have been on the shelves. ( St. George is good, and if he goes to the post on Saturday, spectators would do well to -look him over. Choysa and John Noble look the best of the remainder of the party. The event should be as interesting as any on the programme.
