Rotorua Meeting Entertains The Northerners
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Eepresentative.) Writing before the acceptances have closed, the studying of prospects at Rotorua is not pleasant, for several withdrawals
must happen along. V (~\F the sixteen handicapped for the Cup, there should be sufficient left m after acceptances to provide an interesting contest, for there is nothing outstanding. J Flying Juliet's 9st. may stop her,.but if In the Shade lines up he is the class to be made favorite. Siaosi and Queen Arch are both m, and they can decide whether their Matamata Cup battle was the right decision. Le Choucas is there, while Mervette has staying powers for the class and won twice at Ellerslie. Wenday, Mosque, The Lover, Par North and Sleepy Sol are all worthy of inclusion. * If In the Shade is missing, recent form points to Mervette, Queen Arch and Siaosi as a likely trio to provide the winner. For the Pohutu High Weight, Glenstar may not see the post. The winning form of Owairaka
at Takapuna points to him as most likely m the class. If The Begum takes on the Hot Springs her pace should get her thereabouts, and m her absence Indolent, Miss Myrtle and ' Unoco are a likely three. Archeen, The Thorn, Prince Lv and Brilliant Light are all handily m the Mokoia, while Subdivision has his chance to make good m the Tourist, but Lady's Boy and Macroom are lit to go a solid pacev If Hakanoa does start m the Geyser Hack, he would be hard with all his weight, while m his absence Black Maire should be nicely suited after a good second at Matamata. It is hard to select probable starters m the Arawa Park mile. Jamleson holds a strong hand at present with- the bracketed pair, Le Choucas and Tl Tree. Sleepy Sol is nicely m here, while The Thorn and Lucy Rose should all be m the picture. i I'liiniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiiiMiiiiiiiiiitiiiiiiiiiiniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiiiiiiiiininiiiy H
11 ——'J he hung on to get a dead-heat. , The difference m Owairaka's performances was probably just as hard for the gelding's people to fathom as it was to the punters, who dropped him all too early, but no more is wanted of it. - < ' That Owairaka will prove more reliable m future than when he left his army of first-day admirers lamenting at Takapuna is sincerely hoped. When Owairaka was placed m line with Te Money for the Rarigitoto Hack prize, with Tidal third, it came as a bit of a shock to both jockeys of the other horses, for each concluded they headed off the Avondale nag. In this they were probably wrong, for Owairaka was certainly thereabouts at the death and came with a renewed effort.
