Crown Prosecutor's Position
(From "N.Z; Truth's" Special -Auckland Representative.) There seems to be some misunderstanding' as; to the statui of Orown Prosecutor Meredith, who acted as interrogator for the police m the Elsie Walker inquest. : It is fitting to explain that Mr. Meredith has nothing whatever to do with the collecting of evidence, the investigations or direction of the police. . It only rests with him to consider the statements as they are handed over to him when the police have made al} vthe enquiries they thinK suitable, and to call for his examin^ipn before the assembled court such persons whom he mayj think can throw any light on the various. circumstances as gathered from the material before him. ; v V Mr. Meredith's position is >.. rather invidious, for though h« *" may see fault upon fault, m the manner m which the affair has been managed, he has no standing m the court to voice his comment, and no authority which permits him to order that this or that be done, , That lieavwitlitiw ooroner. \
