All That The Inquest Achieved
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Speci
All that the inquest into . the death of Elsie Walker has so far achieved is to place tht police m the pillory of public opinion, and to create a feeling of grave dissatisfaction, even concern, more p a r t icularly among those who have children of their own.
That the inquest was inconclusive
was inevitable when .a studied consideration of the evidence
given was
taken into
account.
At the same time the impression left m the mind as a whole was that everything which might have been brought forward was riot, arid that
al Auckland Representative)
much was left unsaid. It is not unreasonable to demand that the chief-detective of the Auckland district should take his place m the witnessbox to detail what steps he took to tiene-
trate the dark veil which enshrouds th e_ death of a girl who met such a tragic fate.
The ne w Minister of Justice, Hon. T. Wilford, has already intimated .his decision to consult the
files of the case and it is to be hoped that he will see to it that nothing-, however seemingly unimportant, will be left undone to solve the mystery and repair the muddle.
