Watch Lubrication On Your Travels
With many owners, chassis : lubrication is a matter of once a '.' week instead, of every 300 or 500 miles. W/HILE, with the average amount of ** driving, this system may work very well, it is obviously useless while on tour, covering perhaps 200 miles a day. Pack the grease -gun and a full tin of grease m the car, and use it every day. Constant running for 200 miles is hai-der on the car than a similar distance done over a week or two, and road conditions are probably rougher on tour than at home. , Engine oiling likewise calls for extra care, as your "average speeds will probably be higher tha^i usual. Take your car to a service station, the day before you start, to have the crankcase flushed out and refilled with the best grade oil." To make the most of lubrication, and secure the best fuel mileage, it is an excellent idea to use an upper-cylinder lubricant. ' Here is another thing to do before starting: LiUbricate the wheel bearings. At the same time inspect the bearings to see whether adjustment is needed. Wheel beaVing trouble is almost impossible to rectify on the road without proper spare parts.
