A BIG HELP

■! Aussie Athletes Are Wanted (From "N.Z. Truth's' Athletic Correspondent). ' All hope of getting Peltzer and American athletes here- this season has disappeared, but we may yet have some Australian visitors % to give a fillip to track fixtures. TJNDISMAYED by the failure of the N.Zi Council to' arrange an overseas tour, the Wellington Centre has taken a hand m the matter and has cabled an invitation Jto Ray Hunt, N.S.W. middle distance runner, and Duiican Gray, N.S.W. cyclist, to make a visit to New Zealand. At time of writing, a reply had notbeen received, but followers of the sport are hopeful that the visit will eventuate, as there is no doubt that both men are fine athletes and will lend a great 'deal of interest to forthcoming fixtures. y . Hunt has held the Australian half-mile title and ran second m that event m Wellington last year. Since then, however, he. has come still more prominently into view with a wonderful half-mile '■ run -m Sydney, cut out m lniin. 55 1-5 sees., which sets a new record for Australasia. . Gi-ay toured New Zealand previously m company with Standen, and his . riding then stamped him as an athlete of merit. - : ; He has been to the Olympic Games and the Continent since then and has many distinctive performances to his credit. At present he is the outstanding; rider of Australia. Experts are agreed that his : style, generalship and speed, have improved out of sight as a r.esult of .his overseas experience.?: , It will be interesting, . if he comes, to: note how our prominent wheelmenshape against him. The standard herejust now is particularly gocd, and^ some • ding-dong . contests may be' looked forward to. : :'■'.. -
