NELSON SHIELD
The Life Savers In Action (From "N.Z. Truth's" Wellington Hep.) Keen interest is being taken m this year's Nelson Shield contest to be heltf at Lyall Bay (Wellington) on Tuesday next. QTHER trophies to be competed for at the same meeting are the Henry Memorial, which is named after William Henry, founder of the Royal I.ife Saving Society, who died m London last year. There are six entries for the big shield event comprising Canterbury (rep. team), Milford, Lyall Bay (2), Maranui and Island Baj\ A very interesting position has arisen m connection with this event as Lyall Bay, Maranui, Canterbury and New Brighton have each won the shield twice. The shield was donated to the NewZealand Council of thc Royal Life Saving Society by the Hawkes Bay Centre. The entrants comprise the cream of the various life saving clubs of the Dominion and the display should be bright and interesting. Fourteen entries have been received for the Henry Memorial from Dunedin, Opunake, New Plymouth (rep. team), Lyall,.Bay (4), Maranui (2) and Island Bay (2). The competition which takes the form of a four-man alarm rescue> also carries with it the beltman's championship for fastest time.
