CLASS NOT THERE
Takapuna Cup Field Is Just Moderate
NOT A STAYER'S TASK
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) With the exception of Peg-away and Corinax the Takapuna Cup lot for Saturday next are the best that can be produced m the north.
"THEY are not a first-class team, and 1 racegoers would prefer that something more outstanding would be fighting out the thousand pound contest over eleven furlongs and 40 yards. It is no great stayer's task, because the turning track occasionally, lends some assistance to moderate middle-distance performers. With Transformer on top at 8.8, the class engaged is disappointing. Still, of recent date he has some staying, qualification, for he acted as runner-up to Pegaway m the mile and a-half A.R.C. Handicap. Prodice ran second to Red Heckle m the G.N. Derby, and may be slightly improved, while Desert Glow will be her bracketed companion, and he certainly fancies the Takapuna track. Flying Juliet's fourth to the big guns at Ellerslie and her. Thames Cup victory, both .o.vev ten-furlong courses, will cause the Romeo mare to come into calculations even over the extra
distance, while Wenday is certainly fit but far from top-hole. The Lover is a light-weight which hails from the same stable as Corinax. Some hold that he is the better of the pair. Still, he has yet to prove it m public, and takes some-riding; Thursby is only a battler, while the distance may not be to the liking of Hyde Park, though anything may happen m such a medium lot. Right and Left is ageing, while Eager Rose is just out of hacks. Royal Doulton is brilliant at times, but she wants it all her own ..way to do her best. ■It is a puzzle to sift out anything special at the weights, but the most likely , stayers on form may be m the picture when , the deciding line comes to be crossed. These are: LOOMB'S BRACKET, TRANSFORMER.
