WON A COUPLE
McCombe Should Be On Velvet Johnny i McCombe has , always been known as a "tough", man, and he landed two home at Trentham on Tuesday. THE •. first success came through Mooigrtts, which, all things considered, paid a wonderful price. His minor placing m the Derby, and then his second to Concentrate, m the Stoneyhurst Handicap at Riccarton, m November, were no mean efforts. Early m. the betting, there was little money for him. and this led many to believe that the three-year-old was not greatly fancied. To their sorrow, howevoi, it was. for he won nicely. I^ater m the day Crown Area, without a great deal of opposition was first home m the Anniversary Handir cap. '. Since Johnny paid the big price for the Acre gelding last November he has had .little to worry about. ' McCombe had another runner m Court Jester, but it is not likely that the Comedy King gelding cost him much. But with the two winners •it would be different. / • . They say Johnny puts it on when he fancies them, and thus he would lift a good wad .over" the success of Moofgas and Crown Area.
