THAT SECOND
Effort of Polyxena Was Good (From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) Whan it * comes time • for the public at Takapuna on Saturday to select a favorite for the Calliope Handicap, there may be a distinct leaning towards Polyxena. THIS is' the Chief Ruler— Podokes youngster hailing from Jamieson's stable which gave the Gay Ballerina punters at Ellerslie a decent shock as she put m a gallant rush and got within easy distance of the right money. That burst foretold promise of some note for Polyxena, and the Auckland public are ever on the look-out for anything pertaining to future guidance. Jamieson also has another smart filly engaged m Eaglet, but perhaps one will drop out. There is also engaged Gemlight, a winner at the last Takapuna gathering and which was not suited by the going m his only start at the Ellerslie summer carnival./ Of the others, Awamutu, Flying Prince, Carl, Idem and Cymon are all winners, and the first-named is usually fast out from' the tapes. : Frazer,' Bennie, Currajong and Norval Tea are best known of the rest. ■'That 'will not prevent puntei's from fining the probable result down.' When the whips are cracking, two to be. m it may be POLYXENA, EAGLET.
