The proportions required are as follows: ' 1. — Take 12ozs. calcined alum; dissolve it m 1 pint of alcohol, and mix with 40 gallons of liquor.. This will clarify the liquor m 4 days. 2. — To clarify with milk, take % gallon of good milk; boil it and let it- cool, and mix with 40 gallons of liquor 'to be clarified. This method generally takes from 3 to 4 days. 3. — If using potash, 61bs. of carbonate of potash should be dissolved m % gallon of water, and by mixing it thoroughly with 40 gallons of liquor it will clarify it m about 5 days. These quantities are given on the basis of 40 gallons, but may be varied according to- requirements.
