WELL SMASHED
Dowsett's Hundred Record
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Wellington Rep.) When Norman Dowsett, of Wanganui, ploughed through the water at Napier to the tune of 57 2/ssec. for the hundred, fans thought his record would stand for some years. DUT the self-same fans were due for v a great surprise and Bill Cameron provided it when he' went three-fifths of a second better m fast water at the Te Aro baths on Saturday during the hundred yards' Wellington centre championship. The question has now arisen as to whether the starting board was the regulation 30 inches above the waterline. Some say it was 1% inches short. , His form looks really good m
view of the nearness of the national championships. Norman Dov/sett will surely know he has been m the water 'if he beats Cameron "next month. [
C. Claridge paddled - iri to win the 440 title from Rix-Trott m the rather slow- time of. smin. 50 4/ssec. He is very well at present and will give the national middle-distance events a shake.* •Ka.th. Miller was not troubled to win the 100 yds. ladies' championship and her time suffered accordingly.
