' ♦ Drunk Twice In A" Brewery LEFT~HOME v— — (From "N.Z. Truth's" Christchurch Rep.) The attraction of Burton's brewery, at Rangiora, for a number of people has caused the management of the concern to believe that it was the palatable fluid and not a genuine interest m its manufacture, that was the centre of their interest. CARLY m December a Rangiora ■*- celebrity, Frank George Gibbs, a threshing mill contractor, was found on the premises m an advanced state of intoxication. Gibbs, it was stated, had found access to the brewery, and was not long Within the inner circle before he was unable to leave. He was convicted and admitted to j probation for twelve months on a charge of having been on the premises without lawful excuse. With the approach of the Christmas festivities, Gibbs carelessly allowed himself to fall under the notice of the ! Probation Officer at a moment when he I was armed outwardly and inwardly with a man's sh.are of liquor, and the following day he cleared out from home and was not located for about a fortnight, when he was again found on the brewery premises. Gibbs was described by the police as a hard-working man j whose only failing was that he was crazy for drink. When charged before Magistrate Mosley with drunkenness and with breaking his prohibition order and violating the terms of his probation, Gibbs promised to leave the drink alone m future, but was reminded by the bench that a similar promise made on the occasion of his first offence had been treated lightly. Gibbs was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within three months, and the breach of probation, order charge was adjourned till February 6, with the warning that his bag will be labelled Rotoroa if he again gazes on the wine when it is red.
