Good Old Pop
WAIPUKURAU boys call him "Old Kruschen": WaipuKurau girls
call him "Pop." But , both terms are meant, m kindly spirit for tliei-e is no more popular figure on the tennis courts than that of Shoreland pere, who, m spite of. his sixty years, is still capable of giving his young son a very thorough beating with the nicquets.
Shoreland senior is manager of the Waipukurau Bank, and an old identity of that tennis-loving town. The great open spaces — or as much of them as a tennis court can surround ' — seem a far better setting foi* "Pop" than! the formality and precision of a bank. For sixty he may be, but sinewy, athletic, and twinkling of eye he veryi certainly is. Good citizen, good friend, good fun — all' three terms can be well applied to "Pop" Shoreland.
