RICCARTON TATTLE
5 The Calm After The Holiday Racing s (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Christchurch Representative.) . | Hugh Nurse had a successful trip to the coast, winning races for himself as well a's for his patron. His own maiden, After Ten, was well suited by the small courses, and- returned a liberal divis dend m his initial success.
n TI 7ITH the exception of those horses - VV with engagements at Trentham c southerners will have a quiet time until the Dunedin Cup meeting comes around m FebruaryBeau Geste was not suited by the going m the Waikouaiti Cup, but will be given ari opportunity to prove himself m better company at Trentham. It is intended also to give him a run • m the Dunedin Cup m February, and ' his fourth m the New Zealand Cup suggests that the distance will not be beyond him. Royal Tractor, which contracted a form of poisoning at the Riccarton meeting, Is making a gradual recovery, ) and was running on better at Waikouaiti than he has m his races since November. The Chokebore horses have not been I given much serious work for the past l r few weeks, Childsplay being the only X member to do any fast work against _ the clock. n Her mission at Trentham will be the Wellington Stakes, run over y five furlongs, and at this distance h sh,e is as brilliant as anything m -i the country. '* Double Mint and Luckaline, which were brought from Ellerslie for the West .Coast meetings, will m future be trained at Rangiora by N. C. Price. Ted Scoullar's southern trip was not
so successful as was anticipated, Louise being the only member of the team to get a winning bracket. She was well supported at Oamaru, but her running there lost her a lot of friends and at Wingatui and Invercargill she was neglected m the betting. After his good third m the Fendalton with 7.7, Rotor was given a royal chance to win the Invercargill Cup with the minimum weight, but- finished m the unplaced division. He is a tough little performer, and with an ounce of luck he would: have beenjn the money at Oamaru and Wingatui. He will go to Trentham this month. If he goes on all right Tommy Dodd will accompany Silver Paper and Aspiring to Trentham, though hi 6 present appearance suggests that he would be better suited by racing later m the autumn. So far he appears quite sound. George Murray.-Aynaley's team are all m, work again and appear to have recovered from the heap of injuries which .kept them out of commission at Cup time. Footfall has been given a lot of strong, slow work, and so far has remained sound. He will be nominated for the Dunedin meeting, but it may be even later m the season before he again races.
