Gay Ballerina Goes Fast MAY IMPROVE (From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) By lengthy and hardened experience, W. G. Stead has learned that the owner wants more than a ' reasonable chance of winning if he aspires to make the game pay. MQRTHERNERS generally know W.G.s mind fairly well on the matter of travelling exes. Hence they took the cue from that fact when it became general property that he Avas at Ellerslie with the two-year-old Gay Ballerina^ it was a long wait till New Year's Day, but when the Lord Quex — Lady Ball filly was produced with No. 1 marble to help her she was made a pronounced favorite. She duly won, but only by a neck, but with an extra furlong and extra poundage next day Eaglet was made a better favorite. However, the first race worked wonders m Gay Ballerina, and the result was hardly m doubt from flag-fall. She may not be a champion, but Gay Ballerina is certainly always worth consideration wheji the Hawkes Bay owner prefers to part with travelling
exes, away from home.
