JOHN S. BARTON,. Wanganuj's genial magistrate, will be packing up his belongings during the -law vacation and removing to Wellington. It has been on the cards for some time that John S.B. was due to sit on the bench m a more important sphere than Wanganui and the notice of his transfer came as no surprise. He is a man of many parts, and one of sound judgment, and few indeed have been the appeals against his decisions. He has a wonderful retentive memory and can rattle, up figures at a marvellous rate. In fact, when he gets on the job adding and subtracting, he completely mystifies learned counsel. John S.B. also has some hobbies. t He is a first-rate photographer, has a good knowledge of mechanics, and is particularly handy with' the lathe m wood turning. In sport he runs to seed on cricket and can show, the younger generation points both batting and m the field. Just what he will do without' his private cricket pitch m , Wellington remains to be seen, but John S.B. has a happy way of surmounting all difficulties. .
