SUPERB DIVING
Roy Calder Proves % Himself
[From "N.Z. Truth's" Dunedin Rep.) 7 Judging by his perfect performance m the Otago Swimming Championships last Saturday night, -only very superb diving wr'fi 1 wrest the N.Z. title from Roy Cal.d.er.
ANE of the judges observed that Roy excelled himself, and- it really is doUbtful whether the champion ever dived with such absolute rhythm and precision. His somersault backwards standing from the ten' foot board was a remarkable display of balance, timing and faultless- posture/-
Mick Walker was riot diving up to form, but those who are well acquainted with the ex-champion's career say tha.t he never strikes his best m his home waters. s
Miss Doris Foote wasn't the neat little water-nymph she was m the Dominion ' events ' last season. She needs to.strdve for more heighth and should remember! ,to keep her dainty tootsies pointed when , she enters the water. 7
Fifteen .years old Miss Maxiene Mathieson Was m excellent form and registered time m the 75 yards Intermediate Breaststroke which, should, she maintain her* form, makes her a likely candidate for bigger honors.
Miss M. Jepson had no challengers to meet m the Ladies' 220 yards Championship, and gave a sluggish solo exhibition'which showed that she is not improving. ''■-..
Sprinter TNT. H. Bailey and C. J. McLean put up good, performances, with youngster 8... Geddes mopping up everything, that came his way m the junior boys' events.
Though some very good times were recorded, the . meeting went to show how weak Otago is for swimmers outside the' diving exponents.
